What's the quickest way to get from Point A to Point B?

A straight line, right?

Lately, I've encountered a few things that have made me question this common belief.

First, I came across a video about the Brachistochrone Curve. I'm not sure how YouTube knew I'd be interested in it, but it was quite fascinating. The video demonstrated that when dealing with two points, the quickest route between them isn't always a direct line. A curve can actually be faster.

Second, on a recent flight, my kids asked why we seemed to be flying toward the North Pole. Although I'm no aviation expert, I explained that the Earth's round shape means that sometimes an arc trajectory can be faster.

These experiences made me reflect on my life journey and others' as well. We often expect things to progress in a straight line because it seems to be the fastest and easiest way.

However, in reality, life rarely works out this way. For example, my path to becoming an anesthesiologist was far from straight. There were additional years of research, rejections, waitlists, and last-minute scrambles.

The same goes for my investment journey. There were small steps, big ones, failures, bad choices, and great wins. It was far from a straight line when I look back.

Still, these winding paths led me to where I am today, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If not for these curves, I might not be where I am now.

So, when you find yourself frustrated because things aren't moving in a perfectly straight line, remember that it might actually be the fastest and best way for you to reach your goals.
